POSITION TITLE: Teacher, Steps 1 & 3

LOCATION: Far Brook School – Short Hills, NJ

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract

TIME FRAME: June 29 through July 31, 8:30am-2:30pm

New Jersey SEEDS is a privately funded, statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to academically talented, financially limited students. New Jersey SEEDS works with competitive, primarily independent, secondary schools to provide opportunities for highly motivated, academically qualified, and economically disadvantaged students.

Young Scholars Program
The Young Scholars Program (YSP) provides educational opportunities to rising fifth and sixth graders through 14-months of academic preparation and leadership development before placement in independent day and junior boarding schools. Young Scholars begin their work with SEEDS in the summer following their selection with a five-week summer session. In the fall, classes continue each Saturday, with students participating in workshops on essay writing and interview skills, preparing for the SSAT, and developing new ways to perceive the world and communicate individual perspectives through the program’s enriched arts component. Students conclude the program with a second five-week summer session before leaving SEEDS to join the independent school community.

POSITIONS
We are currently a seeking teachers in English and math for our summer programs. Must have experience with middle school and/or high school students; Teaching certification is not required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach subject area according to guidelines specified by NJ SEEDS
  • Maintain ongoing curriculum evaluation and development to meet needs of Scholars

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Expert level mastery of subject area
  • Expert level written and oral skills
  • Teaching experience in a rigorous academic environment, including work with highly capable students
  • Demonstrated talent in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Review, correct and comment upon written assignments, exams and projects
  • Attend faculty meetings as scheduled
  • Prepare detailed comments about each Scholar via mid-session and final progress reports to be used in the evaluation process
  • Chaperone field trips as needed
  • Additional duties as needed

STIPEND:

  • $2750, subject to all applicable tax-withholding and other required deductions, paid monthly
