Guidance Helps Prepare Students for College Search

To help high school alumni prepare for the college admissions process, Guidance hosted a two-day college tour on July 13 and 14. Alumni visited Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Union College and Williams College and toured the campuses (view photos).

In addition, 25 rising high school juniors and seniors participated in a six-week SAT Prep course run by Foley Prep. The SAT prep course is an annual offering of the Guidance team held at SEEDS’ office in Newark.

On August 8, Guidance hosted a SEEDS Senior Summer Send-Off for Scholars in the Class of 2013 and Young Scholars in the Classes of 2010 and 2011. It was an opportunity for these soon-to-be college freshmen to catch up with old friends over dinner and board games. Attendees also heard from a panel of current college students – Christopher Guilcapi (Scholars ’10, Union County Magnet School ’14, Lehigh University’18), Sabrina Hunte (YSP ’10, Chatham Day School ’12, Kent Place School ’16, Bowdoin College ’20), Ashley Villarreal (Scholars ’12, Kent Place School ’16, Williams College ’20) and Chidera White (Scholars ’10, Episcopal High School ’14, Hamilton College ’18) – with discussions on college advice, such as joining affinity groups, attending orientation, and navigating college life. Graduating seniors also created infinity boards to show where they see themselves in the next four years.

Our Guidance team also organized a reunion for the CPP Class of 2016. These rising sophomores met to catch up before heading back to campus. They also discussed a number of other topics, such as the importance of networking.
