Each session will feature an alum who will speak to a specific area of expertise and answer questions from alumni in attendance. Devika Patel, SEEDS ‘08: Following Your Individual Career Path and How to Tell Your Personal Story

Devika Patel is a designer, public health researcher and engineer, and passionate about advancing health equity for disadvantaged populations. She serves as the Design Director at The Better Lab, a multidisciplinary academic research center at University of California, San Francisco, where she leads and oversees the implementation of human-centered design processes across a variety of different healthcare projects. She is also a lecturer in Design at San Francisco State University. In 2020, she co-founded Period Futures, an organization using design thinking to explore a radical for menstrual health for menstruators worldwide. Her experience spans researching menstruation taboos in rural India, designing better communication systems for community health workers, and designing sustainable toilet models for low-income communities in rural India.

Devika earned her B.S. in Engineering, Product Design, with Honors in Education from Stanford University, and her M.S. in Community Health and Prevention Research from Stanford University School of Medicine. She graduated from the SEEDS Scholars Program in 2008, and then attended Montclair Kimberley Academy, graduating in 2012.

In her spare time, Devika practices classical Indian dance and dabbles in watercolor and embroidery. She currently resides in San Francisco but will always be a New Jerseyan at heart.

Bobby Codjoe, SEEDS ’02: Access to the Legal Profession and How We Can Hold the Law Field Accountable to Their Diversity Commitment

Bobby serves as Director, Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Prior to joining Cardozo Law, he served as an associate in the Legal Affairs Bureau of the New York City Fire Department where he focused on investigations of misconduct and discrimination. Prior to joining the Fire Department, he served as a Senior Staff Attorney at the Legal Aid Society, representing clients in Kings County and handling misdemeanor and felony cases from inception to verdict.

Bobby earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Delaware where he was the recipient of the Delaware State Bar Association’s “Haile Alford Scholarship.” He received his J.D. from Howard University School of Law where he was a member of the Criminal Justice Clinic as well as the Huver I. Brown Trial Advocacy Team. He is a recipient of Howard Law’s award for “Outstanding Achievement in Trial Advocacy.” Bobby is admitted to practice in New York.
