On June 25, 124 rising eighth-graders from across the state headed to The Hill School in Pottstown, Pa. to participate in the three-week Scholars Summer Challenge Program (SCP), the first component of the Scholars Program. During their time with SEEDS, Scholars engaged in rigorous academic classes six days a week – learning math, English and history skills that will help prepare them for selective school placement. Scholars also participated in sports and explored a variety of electives, including: coding, yoga, fiber arts, investing and more.
In addition, Summer Challenge families had the opportunity to learn more about their Scholars’ time with SEEDS as part of SEEDS’ annual Parent Day (view photos). Held on Saturday, July 8, families learned more about SEEDS, about what Scholars had been working on while on campus, and more about The Hill School. It was a great day for the more than 450 Scholars and family members in attendance.
After completing the Summer Challenge Program, 95 Scholars were invited to continue with SEEDS through Scholars Academy Saturdays. Before beginning classes this September, these 95 Scholars attended a Leadership Retreat at Princetown-Blairstown Center in mid-August. For three days, Scholars worked in small groups to participate in activities like dam rappelling, canoeing or kayaking, traversing a catwalk, and more. Meanwhile, Scholars in the Class of 2017 headed to The Hill School on July 17 for the second summer. This three-week residency, the Capstone Experience, helped to prepare Scholars to head off to their new schools. Scholars studied advanced coursework in math, English, history and science, with an area of focus in one of four concentrations: Arts & Culture, Business & Finance, Law & Society, and STEM. Scholars also had the opportunity to hear from special guests in a variety of industries and took electives that focused in their core discipline areas.
