Young Scholars Spend the Summer at Far Brook

From July 3 through August 4, nearly 50 Young Scholars participated in daily academic classes with SEEDS. These rising fifth, sixth and seventh graders worked hard in English and math to prepare for the next school year. Students in the Class of 2018 also spent time preparing for the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT), while the Class of 2017 took an advanced history class.

In addition to their classes, Young Scholars took part in several special events. In mid-July, SEEDS supporter and Friend of SEEDS, Polly Palumbo, along with her daughters, Hope and Paige, hosted a paint social for our Young Scholars. As part of this event, Polly, Hope and Paige helped Young Scholars paint inspiring words and messages using water colors (view photos). Young Scholars also took a field trip to Gill St. Bernard’s School for a special SEEDS & STREAMS event. That day, our students learned about farming and gardening, went on a hike, collected eggs, planted seeds in a hydroponic garden and participated in a Makerspace Challenge. Our students had a wonderful day exploring Gill’s campus (view photos).

Young Scholars’ families were also able to visit students on campus. On July 21, SEEDS hosted the Annual Parent Picnic. The more than 150 Young Scholars, family members and friends had a wonderful day – learning more about Young Scholars’ classes, enjoying lunch, and participating in games and activities (view photos).
