For the past three months, our Scholars and Young Scholars have been hard at work completing applications to selective middle and high schools across the country. Each Saturday during their class time with SEEDS, our students participate in test preparation courses, ensuring that they’ll be ready to take the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) or Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE, Young Scholars only).
Following SEEDS’ Independent School Fair in September (learn more), Scholars and Young Scholars worked closely with SEEDS’ placement team to create a final list of schools. In the coming months, Scholars will interview at each of these prospective schools. In order to help students and their families prepare, SEEDS hosted four mock interview nights – one at each of our Saturday site schools for Scholars and Young Scholars (view photos). Thanks to the more than 60 volunteers – including SEEDS alumni and parents – who helped out with these mock interviews.
SEEDS parents are very involved in students’ placement process. In addition to attending the school fair and participating in mock interviews, parents participated in one of four personalized PFS (Parent Financial Statement)/TADS workshops with SEEDS staff and parent volunteers to finalize these financial aid forms.
In addition to the above preparation, Scholars and Young Scholars have been completing applications to selective schools. Each student will apply to approximately eight schools. By the time the application process at SEEDS is complete next month, SEEDS will have mailed out more than 1,000 applications to nearly 140 schools in 20 states!
Best of luck to all of our Scholars and Young Scholars as they await school decisions!
