On February 27, the Friends of SEEDS hosted an event to discuss key themes that resulted from SEEDS’ No Room For Error Conference this past summer. SEEDS was joined by five panelists: Amanda Addison (Associate Director Undergraduate Admission, University of Pennsylvania), Michael Fletcher (SEEDS ’95, Director of Human Resources, Marion P. Thomas Charter School), Michelle Harvey (Assistant Director of Admissions, Vassar College), Cynthia Amaya-Santiago (Senior Associate Director of Admissions and Coordinator of Multicultural Recruitment, Muhlenberg College) and Lauren Christian (Assistant Director, Office of Admissions, Lehigh University).
The evening’s panelists shared their thoughts on SEEDS’ No Room for Error Conference – which fostered discussion on the challenges facing low-income students from middle school to mid-career – and answered questions from the evening’s guests. Panelists also recapped key takeaways from the summer event, including the importance of self-advocacy and mentorship, mental health support, financial literacy guidance, family connections and cultural competency.
