The SEEDS Admissions team has been busy! In January, SEEDS formally accepted 45 students into the College Scholars Class of 2019. SEEDS received more than 100 applications from eleventh grade students in public high schools within 25 miles of Newark. Eighty-four students and their families were then selected as finalists and invited to interview with SEEDS before final decisions were made.
The Class of 2019 formally began their SEEDS journey with an orientation on February 1. This orientation was an opportunity for students to learn more about SEEDS, the College Scholars Program and SEEDS’ placement process. Students also heard from College Scholar seniors – Nadjulia Constant (ED Villanova University), Yaa Obeng (Amherst College via QuestBridge) and Kemo Grant (ED American University) – about their SEEDS experiences. In December, students interested in SEEDS’ Scholars and Young Scholars Programs had the opportunity to submit materials for our Early Decision (ED) deadline. More than 150 applications were read for the two programs, with 76 fourth, fifth and seventh graders selected as finalists for interviews (view photos). Earlier this month, SEEDS admitted 18 Scholars and four Young Scholars. Congratulations to the newest members of SEEDS and thank you to the volunteers who joined us for interviews! Students who were not admitted through SEEDS’ Early Decision deadline will be reconsidered for admission this spring.
Nearly 200 more applications were received for SEEDS’ final Scholars and Young Scholars deadline in early February. Those applications are currently being reviewed by SEEDS staff. Finalists will be notified in early March and interviews will take place in mid-March. Good luck to the potential candidates!
